Senator Lisa Baker Offers Scholarship for Military Academy

High school seniors are encouraged to apply for a $12,000 annual legislative scholarship to attend the Valley Forge Military College.

One candidate from the district is selected annually to participate in the Valley Forge Military College Legislative Appointment Initiative. A selection committee comprised of local military and educational leaders will select the scholarship recipient. Each winner will receive guaranteed admission and a partial scholarship for up to two years.

Students who attend Valley Forge’s two-year transfer college can then apply these credits to academically competitive four-year colleges, universities or service academies.

“Any student with a strong character, academic record and commitment to service can apply for the appointment,” Baker explained. “If scholarship students continue on to a service academy, they will be able to obtain a top-notch college education at virtually no cost to the student.”

Scholarship applicants must have earned a minimum SAT score of 1,000 and an overall GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale. They should also be active in sports or other extracurricular activities and exhibit leadership skills, good character, and a service-oriented commitment.

Applications are due by February 1, 2015.
